Marking the third year in power at the Centre, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Dhola Sadiya bridge in Assam on Friday. It replaced Mumbai’s Bandra- Worli Sea Link as the longest bridge in the country. He said that the bridge will be named after late Indian singer Bhupen Hazarika.
Modi also lauded the works of chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal for the development of the state.
The three-lane, 9.15 kilometres long bridge is built on River Lohit, a tributary of River Brahmaputra. It connects Dhola in Assam to Sadiya in Arunachal Pradesh. A road distance of 165 km has been reduced by the bridge. The Dhola-Sadiya bridge promises to provide good road connectivity to remote and backward areas, that lack proper road infrastructure.
It will give a major boost to the overall economic development of the areas north of the Brahmaputra in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
