London, Oct 24 (IANS) The British authorities have refused permission to “Free Kashmir” protest, planned by British Pakistanis and UK-based Kashmiris, at the Indian High Commission office here on October 27 (Diwali).

According to reports, British Home Secretary Priti Patel talked to the Metropolitan Police against the proposed protest over abrogation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status.

Earlier, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson told Parliament Patel would talk to the police over Indian government’s concerns.

Protesters had sought permission for “Free Kashmir” march from Parliament to the Indian High Commission. However, the police have allowed the march from Parliament to Trafalgar Square.

According to a report in ‘The News’ of Pakistan, the Brtish Home Ministry spokesperson said the ban was part of the police action and had nothing to do with the Home Secretary.

British Mayor Sadiq Khan had also condemned the protest march on Diwali and asked protesters to cancel it.

On August 15, protesters had organised violent protest and attacked the Indian High Commission office in London.
