Political heavyweights holding ground in Maharashtra

New Delhi, Oct 24 (IANS) Most political heavyweights are holding their ground in the Maharashtra Assembly elections.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) heavyweight and Sharad Pawar’s nephew, Ajit Pawar, who was named in the money laundering scam and threatened to leave his MLA seat, is leading by more than 1 lakh votes from the Pawar family stronghold of Baramati in the sugar belt of Western Maharashtra.

Former Maharashtra CM, Prithviraj Chavan of the Congress, is leading by around 5,000 votes in Karad south constituency.

Another former Maharashtra CM, Ashok Chavan of the Congress, has a lead of more than 63,000 votes in Bhokur.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Phadnavis is leading by more than 10,000 votes from the Nagpur South West seat.

Thackeray family scion, Aaditya is leading by more than 46,000 votes in the Worli seat of Mumbai city.

Political heavyweight, Radhakrishna Vikhe Patel, who switched over to the BJP from the Congress, is leading by more than 74,000 votes in Shirdi.

BJP heavyweight Chandrakant Patil is leading by more than 11,000 votes in the Kothrud seat.

There is a neck-to-neck fight in Sakoli, where Nana Patole, who deserted the BJP to join the Congress, is trailing BJP’s Parinay Fuke by around 500 votes.
