Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday slammed Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government over hoardings with names, addresses, and photos of those who were accused of violence during protests against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
Priyanka mentioned that the BJP govt in Uttar Pradesh has started considering themselves above the Constitution.
She wrote a tweet in Hindi slamming act of the UP Govt,
“The attitude of the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh has become such that the head of the government and the officials who are following his footsteps have started considering themselves above the Constitution formulated by Babasaheb Ambedkar.”
She asserted that the High Court has told the government that no institution or an entity can be above the constitution. The govt’s accountability towards their action will be fixed.
The hearing of the case has been delayed till 3 pm by the Allahabad High Court.
Allahabad Cout Chief Justice Govind Mathur has called the District Magistrate and Divisional Police Commissioner of Police of Lucknow to grant statements to the court. On Thursday, the district administration put up hoardings with photos and addresses of 53 anti-CAA protesters at prominent crossings across the city.
Pictures of Shia cleric Maulana Saif Abbas, Darapuri and Congress leader Sadaf Jafar, all of whom were named as accused in the violence that occurred on December 19 last year were put up on banners and hoardings.
“Photos have been put up belonging to those people who tried to create unrest under the garb of the Citizenship Amendment Act. They harmed people of the state and tried to destroy public properties. Now damages will be recovered from them,” he said.
Former IPS SR Darapuri termed administration’s action as ‘unconstitutional’ and says its a propaganda done by the govt to defame protesters.
