Acid attack on women in India is not new. Women have been victim of this crime for years. Acid-attack is one of the ruthless types of crime on human beings which leads to complete debilitation, loss of income and opportunity, and even ostracism. Acid attack has seen a steep rise in past few years and as usual, most of the victims are women. While some attacks have resulted in slow and painful deaths, many have left young women disfigured as well.
In a heart-warming move, Chief Minister of Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh has declared assistance to the survivors of this grievous crime.
Although the Indian government is trying to bring into force a legislation designed to help tackle the pervasive crime of acid throwing, most perpetrators remain at large. There is very little scope for the rehabilitation of acid survivors and barely anyone to provide support.
On Tuesday, Singh took to Twitter to declare that the state government will be paying Rs 8000/ month to the female acid attack survivors. He further said that this rule will be implemented under the Punjab Financial Assistance to Acid Victims Scheme 2017.
