Rajasthan: Rise in rape cases by 81% in 2019

Jaipur: Rajasthan has seen an extreme rise in the number of rape incidents registered across the state, It reported an increase of 81.45 percent in 2019 when compared to 2017. Crime statistics had been released by the state police on Monday. Crimes against women saw a 50 % increase in 2019.

While 3,305 rape cases were lodged in 2017, the number rose and touched 4,335 in 2018. In 2019, the registered rape cases reached 5,997. From 2018 to 2019, crimes against women increased by 49.14 percent in the state.

Along with rape, other complaints of harassment and eve-teasing rose. There was an increase of 22 percent in rape cases under the Pocso Act.

Recently, on December 2,  a 17-year-old girl in Rajasthan’s Jalore district was kept chained and allegedly raped repeatedly by her father in their home, the police said. In a police complaint, the minor has accused her father of keeping her hands and legs tied with heavy chains and raping her after she saw him in a compromising position with another woman.

On December 1, 2019, A six-year-old was kidnapped and allegedly raped and murdered in Tonk district’s Aligarh police station area. The girl had gone missing on Saturday afternoon and her body was found on Sunday morning behind some bushes. Cops are looking for the accused who have not been identified.
