According to reports, Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar has been appointed as the new Director-General of the Central Police Reserve Force (CRPF). The decision comes just two days after 25 jawans of the CRPF were killed by Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district.

The formal announcement is likely to be made late at Wednesday night.

Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar, a 1983 Uttar Pradesh cadre IPS officer, has previously served as chief of the Narcotics Control Bureau in the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

He also served as a former Special Director-General of the Central Industrial Security Force in New Delhi.

The post was vacant for nearly two months after CRPF’s full-time director K Durga Prasad retired in February.

Sudeep Lakhtakia, a 1984 batch IPS from Telangana is presently serving as acting director of CRPF.
