Bhavnagar is ranked sixth in the state of Gujarat in terms of the count of coronavirus cases, it comes right after Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara and Gandhinagar. Among the seven cases, six are in Bhavnagar city while one case can be found in Jesar village. Five of the six cases in Bhavnagar are from Ranika area or its nearby place said city Health Officer R K Sinha.
The first case of COVID-19 was an attendee of Tablighi Jamaat congregation in Delhi during March 8-11, tested positive detected on March 26, he was a 70-year-old man.
He passed away immediately after the result of his sample came back. On Thursday, his relative who lived with him was also found to have contracted coronavirus.
The deceased, who died during treatment at Bhavnagar’s Sir T Hospital, lived in Karchariya Para area which is adjoining Ranika area.
After three days, on March 29, four samples were taken from Bhavnagar city were found positive along with one taken from Jesar village.
However, the other four who tested positive in Bhavnagar city includes a 90-year-old man, resident of Limbdivali Sadak in Ranika, while a 50-year-old resident of Bhilwada Circle and a 65-year-old resident of Vadva Sidivadi are located less than 2 km from Ranika.
Along with the first patient, five out of six cases in Bhavnagar are concentrated in a 2-km radius of Ranika.
Police Officer issues a statement, he said, more than 50% of the quarantined in Bhavanagar city are now in Ranika area. He said till now nine persons have been identified who attended the Tablighi event in Delhi. All have been quarantined.
