Riot Accused May Face Passport Cancellation: Individuals identified as being directly involved in rioting during the recent Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest in the national capital could face passport cancellation, according to Delhi Police sources, as investigators intensify efforts to identify those responsible for violence during the “Chalo Sansad” march.
According to police sources, authorities are examining measures beyond criminal prosecution for those found to have participated in rioting or other serious offences during the July 20 protest. Among the options under consideration is recommending cancellation of passports of accused individuals after their identities and alleged roles are established through the ongoing investigation. Officials stressed that any move would follow the legal process and be grounded on evidence that was gathered during the probe, not just assumption or rumour.
The Delhi Police has already filed multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) in connection with the violence, triggering provisions tied to rioting, assault on public servants, damage to public property and other offences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Investigators are relying on AI-enabled surveillance systems, CCTV footage, mobile videos and social media content to identify those allegedly involved in attacks on police personnel and damage to government property. Police officials said facial recognition and electronic evidence are being analysed as part of the investigation.
The violence erupted after protesters attempted to march towards Parliament despite prohibitory orders in force in central Delhi. Delhi Police has maintained that the march did not have permission and alleged that some participants turned violent by attacking personnel, damaging vehicles and attempting to breach security barricades.
The investigation is also unfolding alongside judicial scrutiny of the police response. The Delhi High Court has told Delhi Police to preserve CCTV footage and video recording linked to police action during the protest while dealing with petitions that allege excessive use of force against the demonstrators. This order is basically to make sure that all the relevant evidence stays available for later legal proceedings.
On Thursday, Delhi Police also dismissed viral social media posts claiming that a woman protester had died during the police action, calling the reports “false propaganda.” The force warned that legal action would be taken against individuals spreading misinformation capable of disturbing public order.
