Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, convicted in the fodder scam, has been granted bail on Friday by Jharkhand High Court.

According to the reports, Lalu Prasad’s lawyer said Lalu has to deposit Rs 2 lakh. He has been in jail for 30 months and can get out of jail only after hearing in Dumka case.

Dumka hearing has been scheduled for November 9. Lalu Prasad will complete half the sentence in dumka case on that day. His bail was opposed by the CBI lawyer. However, the court has granted bail.

A special CBI court in Ranchi in 2018 awarded the veteran politician, a 7-year imprisonment under Indian Penal Code and another 7 years under Prevention of Corruption Act. The court also imposed 60 lakh rupees as fine. The case was related to fraudulent withdrawals of over Rs 3 crore from December 1995 to January 1996 from the Dumka treasury.

The court had convicted Lalu Prasad after finding him guilty on the charges of conspiracy and corruption in the case. The RJD Chief was already serving a jail term in Ranchi’s Birsa Munda Central Jail  after his conviction in three other fodder scam cases.
