Supreme Court on Friday dismissed the PILs seeking a court-monitored investigation into the Rafale deal. The court said that it found nothing wrong with the Rafale deal, it finds no irregularities in Centre’s decision-making process to purchase 36 Rafale fighter jets.

A bench headed by CJI Ranjan Gogoi said nothing was called into question at the time the deal was announced.

“Our country cannot afford to be underprepared,” the court said, referring to the Indian Air Force being short on the number of aircraft it must have.

The Supreme Court said it has studied the matter “extensively”. “We are satisfied that there is no occasion to doubt the process

The court also said that it can’t compel the government to purchase 126 Rafale aircraft, which the previous UPA government had planned to do.
