Sealdah-Ajmer Express derails in Kanpur: At least 2 killed, 40 injured

In an unfortunate event 14 coaches of the Ajmer-Sealdah Express – train no 12988, derailed near Rera in Kanpur Dehat that killed at least two and left around 40 people injured as per the initial reports. The accident occurred at around 5.20 am, and traffic between Etawah and Kanpur, is affected.

As per a report in Firstpost, Anil Saxena, ADG, PR Railway said, “Ambulances are already on the spot and rescue work is in progress. A medical train from Kanpur has also arrived on the spot, and another from Tundla is on its way. All trains between Etawah and Kanpur are affected, and we are trying to divert them to an alternate route.”

As per preliminary reports, 40 people have been injured in the accident and around 24 of the injured have been rushed to a nearby hospital.

Reportedly, a few of the bogies of the train also fell into a canal. Some passengers are stuck in it and will be rescued soon.

In the meantime, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said, he is “Personally monitoring the situation in wake of unfortunate derailment of Sealdah-Ajmer express near Kanpur.”

‘I have directed CRB, all senior officials to personally ensure best possible help,” he said on Twitter, adding that a thorough investigation will be carried out to ascertain the cause.

As said by local police, the railway authorities have not reached on the accident spot.
