BTS 2026 Comeback Show at Gwanghwamun Square: Seoul’s city government has achieved a historic milestone by providing conditional approval for the BTS 2026 Comeback Show at Gwanghwamun Square. The event will take place in the center of South Korea’s capital city. The decision, announced on Thursday, opens the door for a large-scale outdoor concert by global pop phenomenon BTS, marking the group’s first full-group live performance in their home country in nearly four years.
According to Seoul Metropolitan Government officials, the event titled “BTS 2026 Comeback Show @ Seoul” is expected to take place on March 21, 2026, just one day after the release of BTS’s fifth full-length album, ARIRANG. This performance will be the first time the seven members reunite on a public stage in South Korea since completing mandatory military service and returning to group activities.
Gwanghwamun Square, surrounded by iconic landmarks including Gyeongbokgung Palace and Seoul Plaza, has been chosen as the venue, highlighting the city’s cultural pride and global aspirations.

While the Seoul city government has given its approval, it is only conditional meaning organizers must satisfy several safety and operational requirements before final approval can be issued. City officials emphasized their commitment to public safety as their main focus because they expect tens of thousands of fans to attend the event.
Key conditions set by the advisory committee include:
Authorities have also pledged to coordinate with the police, Jongno District Office, and other agencies to manage what could be one of the largest public gatherings in recent years.
City planners are bracing for significant crowds not only within Gwanghwamun Square but throughout adjacent streets and public spaces. Organizers initially requested permissions for a show accommodating roughly 18,000 attendees at Gwanghwamun Square, with a separate event planned for Seoul Plaza for up to 30,000 people. Officials caution that, when including fans gathering nearby, total attendance official and unofficial could near 100,000.
Leaders from Seoul’s governmentincluding Kim Chang-gyu, head of the Balanced Development Headquartersunderscore that the concert could spotlight the city’s global appeal and cultural influence far beyond music. “We will prioritize visitor safety in our management and inspections,” said Kim Chang-kyu, head of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Balanced Development Headquarters. “We will pursue various programs to help Gwanghwamun Plaza become a K-pop landmark.”
Officials are planning special experience programs targeted at international visitors, especially BTS’s passionate fanbase known as ARMY, blending K-pop content with broader Korean Wave (Hallyu) experiences throughout downtown Seoul.
