In another step towards ending the protests at Shaheen bagh in Delhi, a delegation of protesters met Delhi LG Anil Baijal on Tuesday.

Delhi Police facilitated this meeting as part of the efforts to resolve the issue. Several people, including women and children, are sitting in protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act for more than a month now.

The sit-in at Shaheen Bagh has caused one of the main routes connecting Delhi and Noida to remain closed.

“Met the delegation of protestors from Shaheen Bagh. Assured them to convey their concerns to appropriate authorities. Appealed to call off their agitation in view of continued inconvenience to school children, patients, daily commuters, local residents, etc. due to blockade of road.” Baijal tweeted after meeting the delegation.

The delegation has also agreed to discuss a “proper solution to open roads for all school vans during specific exam timings,” even though the protesters have time and again allowed “school buses and ambulances to pass through the area.”

The Delhi Police on Monday appealed to protesters at Shaheen Bagh to unblock the road after parents of schoolchildren expressed “deep anxiety” in view of forthcoming board examinations.
