Sharad Purnima 2025: Sharad Purnima or Kojagiri Purnima or Raas Purnima, will fall on Monday, October 6, 2025. As per Hindu Panchang, the full moon day (Poornima) starts on October 6 and goes on till October 7. But the festival will be celebrated by the devotees on the lunar evening of October 6 when the moon will be at its brightest and will give its full form.

Notably, the scientific full moon (when the moon is at its total light) is on October 7, 2025 (early morning IST). However, since Hindu festivals are based on the lunar tithi, the festival and other activities will be done on October 6 evening. This leads to the reason why some calendars display different dates.

Why Sharad Purnima is Celebrated?

The name Sharad Purnima refers to the full moon of the Sharad season that marks the end of the monsoon season and the beginning of the autumn season. Ancient texts refer to it as the night when the moonlight is pure and clear (all 16 kalas) and hence the rays of the moon are considered nectar.

Lakshmi Puja: The night of Kojagiri is the night when Goddess Lakshmi is believed to bless those who remain awake.

Krishna Raas Leela: In the Vrindavan tradition, this night of the Sharad Purnima is associated with Krishna’s divine Raas Leela with the gopis.

Sharad Purnima 2025: Rituals and Traditions

1. Fasting and Preparation: The devotees typically conduct a daytime fast and get themselves ready for the worship.

2. Full Moon Water: Put a glass bowl with water directly under the moonlight. Next morning drink it for emotional healing and calmness.

3. Sit in Moonlight: Be under the moon for at least 10 minutes and bask in her light which will purify your aura and give you inner peace.

4. Kheer Offering: Make kheer and with it, lovingly offer to Maa Lakshmi. Share it with your family so that sweetness and grace come into your home.

5. Manifestation Letter: It is believed that writing your dreams as if they are already true and put the paper under the moon helps in manifestations to come true.

6. Charge Crystals: If you are a tarpt card reader or someone involved with crystal foture telling. Leave your crystals or tarot decks in the moonlight to renew or recharge their energy.

7. Bay Leaf Ritual: Scribble one wish on a bay leaf and burn it safely. Let the leaf be taken by the universe you release your wish upon that day.

The custom of consuming moon-charged kheer or water has been implemented as a symbolic but nevertheless practical method to pacify the body’s internal heat during the transition period.
