Earlier, Shashi Tharoor filed Rs 2 crores defamation suit against Goswami for alleged defamatory remarks linked to the death of his wife, Sunanda Pushkar. Now he said, “I am a strong advocate of freedom of the press but this does not include the license to lie.”
Slamming the newly-launched TV channel, he said, “This malicious and unprofessional channel has been persecuting me through repeated broadcasts, abetted by slanderous discussion shows, in which a tissue of lies and distortions is built up to prejudice the mind of the viewer into believing that a murder was committed and that I am either culpable or complicit.”
“The chase for TRPs by a new channel trying to establish itself is understandable, but it does not justify such falsehoods and outrageous conduct, which is intended to influence the investigation, derails a fair enquiry and obstructs due process,” he added.

‘That is why I am glad the Delhi High Court concurred that this vile channel and its anchor have gone too far, and required them to confine their reporting to the facts. I welcome this development,” he concludes.
