The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday rejected the plea seeking exemption from singing national anthem in the madrasas.
The petition challenged the order issued by the state government in Uttar Pradesh, which instructed madrasas across the state to sing national anthem on Independence day.
The madrasas were asked to videograph the celebrations of Independence day, including the singing of national anthem. The circular, ruling BJP said, is only intended to boost patriotism in all young minds.
“There should be no communal overtones attached to it. Instead, those political parties which are politicising the matter and misleading the minorities are the ones playing communal politics,” said BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra during a recent TV debate.
RSS ideologue Rakesh Sinha also defended the state government’s order, saying the matter should not be viewed through the prism of religion, caste or creed. “The Muslims of India have no problem with this order. They are proud to sing the national anthem. It is only some politicians who are creating controversy for their cheap electoral gains,” he said while speaking to a news channel.
