Sri Lankan criminal police on Tuesday July 2, arrested former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fenando and former Inspector General of Police, Pujith Jayasundara over ‘grave crimes against humanity’ over their negligence to prevent the Easter Sunday terror attacks.

The Attorney General, on Thursday, had directed the Acting IGP to name IGP Jayasundara and former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando as suspects of the Easter Sunday attacks. The special investigation board has uncovered that the former Defense Secretary and the IGP’s criminal negligence and excessive delinquency have caused the casualties and property damage in the attacks.

“There is sufficient information to prove negligence of official duties … and criminal negligence. It is also considered a grave crime against humanity under international law,” Livera said in the letter.

As per the reports, the duo have been taken under CID custody while they were receiving treatment at two separate hospitals in Colombo.
