SSDI Pay Chart 2026: Social Security Disability Insurance, or SSDI, doesn’t give every disabled worker the same monthly payment. Your benefit is mainly based on your past earnings and the wages on which you paid Social Security taxes. The Social Security Administration (SSA) says people can check their own estimated benefit through their personal Social Security account.
So, there isn’t one fixed minimum SSDI check for everyone. A person with a short or lower-paid work history can get much less than someone who earned higher wages for many years. The medical condition is mainly used to decide whether a person meets the disability rules, not to set the dollar amount.

SSDI and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) are two different programs. SSDI is linked to a worker’s Social Security-covered earnings and work record. SSI is a needs-based program for people who have limited income and resources.
For 2026, the maximum federal SSI payment is $994 a month for one eligible person and $1,491 for an eligible couple. The actual SSI amount can be lower because of income, living arrangements and other factors. This means the $994 figure shouldn’t be treated as the minimum or standard SSDI payment. It’s an SSI amount, not an SSDI rate.
The latest SSA statistics show that 7,125,880 disabled workers were receiving benefits in December 2025. Their average monthly payment was $1,633.19. The average was $1,787.05 for men and $1,478.83 for women.
Payments can vary a lot by age. In the same month, disabled workers under age 20 averaged $725.45, while those aged 60 to 64 averaged $1,757.61. These are averages, though, and they don’t mean every person in that age group gets the same amount.
SSA’s benefit distribution also shows that there are people receiving very small payments. In December 2025, 4.2% of disabled workers received less than $600 per month, while 5.6% received $3,000 or more. The median benefit was $1,496.
More than 124,000 disabled beneficiaries received at least $3,300 in the older 2024 data. This again shows why there isn’t a single SSDI pay chart that fits everyone.
The SSA’s 2024 report found that diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue were the biggest disability category among disabled workers, making up 34.1% of beneficiaries.
For new disabled-worker awards in 2024, musculoskeletal and connective-tissue diseases accounted for 35.3%. Mental disorders made up 13.5%, followed by neoplasms at 12.4%, circulatory diseases at 10.8%, and nervous-system and sense-organ diseases at 9.6%.
Among all disabled workers receiving benefits in December 2024, depressive, bipolar and related disorders accounted for 12.0%, while nervous-system and sense-organ diseases made up 10.3%. Having one of these conditions doesn’t automatically mean someone will receive SSDI. The SSA must also find that the condition prevents substantial gainful activity and that the person meets the other program requirements.
