Swami Aseemanand gets bail in Samjhauta blast case

Swami Aseemanand, one of the alleged mastermind of 2007 Samjhauta Express blast case, was granted bail on Friday by a special NIA court in Haryana’s Panchkula district.

He furnished two bonds, one a personal bond of ₹1 lakh and two surety bonds of

₹1 lakh each. The entire case is in connection with multiple blasts that had occurred in the Samjhauta Express near Dewana station in Panipat, killing 68 people, mostly from Pakistan.

The blasts had occurred on the intervening night of February 18 and 19, 2007.

A number of NIA witnesses have turned hostile in the case, including one of the three witnesses presented today before the court.
