Social Security Disability Insurance
Social Security July: Next week nearly 7.5 million people in the U.S will be getting a payment from the Social Security Administration (SSA). This will be the first round of checks being sent out for the month of July. On Tuesday, July 1, people who get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will receive their regular monthly payment. SSI checks always go out on the first of the month, unless that day lands on a weekend or a holiday, in which case the check is sent earlier. But this time,July 1 is a Tuesday, so everything is on schedule.
The SSI program is meant to help people who don’t have enough income or savings to support themselves. Most people who get these payments are over 65, or they live with a disability. Right now, about 7.409 million people across the country get help through this program. One thing that makes SSI different from other Social Security programs is that you don’t need to have worked or paid into Social Security through taxes to qualify.
Social Security Recipients with Student Debt Face Reductions Starting June 2025
The average amount that someone gets through SSI is around $718.30 each month, based on the newest information from the SSA. But the most one person can get is $967 a month. If a couple qualifies together, they can receive as much as $1,450. Some people may even get a little extra money from the state they live in, but that depends on where they live. States have their own rules, so the amount can be more in some places.
Apart from SSI, other Social Security checks are going out later in the month. People who get retirement, survivor, or SSDI benefits usually get their money on a Wednesday, but which Wednesday depends on when they were born. If someone started getting those benefits before May 1997, they don’t follow the birthday rule. These long-term recipients will get their payment on Thursday, July 3.

Some people get both SSI and other Social Security benefits like retirement or disability. In that case, they will first get the SSI check on July 1, and then the second payment will come on July 3. That’s how the SSA usually handles it, to make sure everything is smooth.
