Uttar Pradesh Police personnels who drew criticism over a disturbing video of assaulting a girl in their police van have been suspended. The video of the shameful incident was widely circulated on social media where the cops are orally and physically assaulting her. There were four police constables in the van where a lady cop can be seen beating the girl while another cop sitting on the front seat uses derogatory language for her.
The girl was a medical student who was in a relationship with another medical student who was a Muslim boy. After the video was surfaced, Meerut Superintendent of Police Ranvijay Singh ordered an inquiry, following which, three police constables were suspended.
The Uttar Pradesh Police tweeted in response, saying, “With reference to a video by staff of PRV 561 in PS Medical Meerut, HC Salek Chand, Constable Neetu Singh, lady Constable Priyanka have been suspended. A report regarding the HG Sainserpal has been sent to District Commandant Home Guard. Such behaviour shall never be tolerated.”
