Uber plans to launch flying taxi service by 2023

Online cab aggregator giant Uber has unveiled plans to tie up with plane manufacturers to develop and test a network of flying cars by 2020.

Uber will run trials in Dallas in US and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

Aviation companies including Embraer and Bell Helicopter have been developing the flying electric taxis for Uber.

The innovative concept was first published in a white paper in October 2016.  According to the company, the electric vehicles will take off and land vertically like a helicopter, with zero emissions and minimal noise. The service will eventually cost same as normal taxi fare.

The goal is “to enable customers in the future to push a button and get a high-speed flight in and around cities,” Uber said in a statement.

The first Uber Elevate Network demonstration will be launched in the 2020 World Expo in Dubai.

The company is planning to have its flying taxi service transporting customers as soon as 2023, BBC reported.
