Uttar Pradesh: Yogi govt proposes 100m tall Lord Ram statue in Ayodhya

Yogi Adityanath-led state government has proposed the construction of a 100-meter tall statue of Lord Ram in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya on Saryughat. Besides the statue, other structures of public utility will also be built in the town. Funds for these projects has been partly sanctioned by the Centre.

The proposal to build a ‘Navya Ayodhya’ was presented to Governor Ram Naik. The state tourism department has undertaken the project to promote religious tourism. The proposed height of the statue will be 100 m, but it is not fixed.

For the development of Ayodhya, the UP government had sent a detailed project report (DPR) for the approval of Rs 195.89 crore; Rs 133.70 crore has been approved so far.

According to a  government communique, the statue will be built after securing permission from the National Green Tribunal. So far, the proposal has not been to NGT for approval.

The Ram Temple has been an emotive issue for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the last three decades.
