The Uttrakhand authorities have designated Haridwar and Nainital as ‘red zones’ or hotspots after a spike in the number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in these two districts, news agency ANI reported on Sunday.
Yugal Kishor Pant, additional secretary (Health), said that 80% of the COVID-19 cases in the state are from Dehradun, Haridwar and Nainital districts. The state capital, Dehradun, has already been classified as a ‘red zone’.
Earlier this week, the government divided the country into color-coded areas depending on the level of infection— red zones indicate infection hotspots, orange some infection, while green denotes an area with no infections.
The districts seeing a high number of cases or high growth rates of infections were marked as hotspots; districts where some cases have been found as non-hotspots; and those which have reported no cases as green zones.
