VA Benefits October 2026: Veterans who receive monthly VA disability compensation could see two deposits in their bank account during October 2026. But this doesn’t mean they’re getting an extra month of money.
The first payment is expected on Thursday, October 1, 2026. This payment is for September benefits. The next one is due on Friday, October 30 and will cover October benefits. It’s being paid before the usual November date because November 1 falls on a Sunday.
VA disability compensation is paid after the month the benefit is for. So, the payment appearing in October can cover either September or October depending on the deposit date. Veterans shouldn’t expect another regular disability payment at the start of November because the October benefit will have already been paid on October 30.

The amount a veteran gets each month depends mainly on their VA disability rating and whether they have eligible dependents. VA ratings run from 0% to 100% in steps of 10%. Veterans with higher ratings generally receive higher monthly compensation.
For 2026, a veteran with a 10% rating gets $180.42 per month. A 20% rating pays $356.66. At a 100% rating, a veteran with no dependents receives $3,938.58 each month. A veteran with a 100% rating, a spouse and one child gets $4,318.99. Veterans with ratings of 30% or more can also receive additional amounts for qualifying dependents.
These 2026 rates include a 2.8% cost-of-living increase. The higher rates became effective on December 1, 2025.
VA disability compensation is a tax-free monthly benefit for veterans who have a condition connected to their military service. A qualifying condition can be an illness or injury that started during service, became worse because of service or appeared after service but is still linked to military duty.
