Happy Vat Purnima Vrat 2020: Vat Purnima Vrat or Vat Pournima is one of the most sacred Hindu festivals of Maharastra. On this day, devotees observe fast and pray for the well-being of their husbands. This year, the festival falls on June 5.
The festival is the inclusion of women fasting through the day and tying red and orange threads around an auspicious banyan tree for praying to the Lord Almighty to get the same husband through all of their lives. The Vat Pournima Festival is celebrated on “full moon”. The full moon means Purnima in Sanskrit.
Vat Pournima came into existence after the legendary story of how Savitri brought back her dying husband’s soul from the God of death, Yamaraj. The legend goes that under a banyan tree, Savitri was nursing her dying husband when several messengers of death came but had to return empty-handed because she refused to give him up.
