Woman Finds Hundreds of Maggots Inside Blocked Nose: According to The Mirror, the 59-year-old woman thought that her cold-like symptoms were a result of too much dust.
During a nosebleed, she found tiny maggots coming out of her nose, which changed her opinion.
Dr Pateemon Thanachaikhan discovered “foreign bodies” in the woman’s nostrils after an X-ray at Nakornping Hospital in Chiang Mai Province, northern Thailand.
The woman had a maggot-infested nose, which was surgically removed.
Nakornping Hospital documented the incident on Facebook and said the woman was initially treated for sinusitis before the nosebleed.
An X-ray revealed a white blemish on the left zygomatic sinus. An endoscopy revealed more than 100 worms in both nasal cavities, so they were forceps-removed.”
Upon maggot removal, the doctors claimed the patient was out of danger and “safe”. Local reports noted that her condition had dramatically improved.
Untreated, the insects would have gradually damaged the woman’s eyes and brain, causing disability and even death, according to The Mirror.
The northern region of Thailand, such as Chiang Mai, as well as Caribbean islands such as Cuba and Jamaica are more prone to fly-related illnesses because of allergies and rhinitis.
