A day after Haryana Police initiated a probe against the former cricket Yuvraj Singh for casteist remarks on leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, Yuvi has issued an apology on social media. Hansi-based lawyer Rajat Kalsan filed a complaint with the Haryana Police alleging that the former cricketer had passed  a casteist remark against Dalits.

According to the Hansi Superintendent of Police Lokender Singh, the complaint was filed on May 2.

Taking to Twitter on Friday, Yuvraj said, “ I understand that while I was having a conversation with my friends, I was misunderstood, which was unwarranted. However, as a responsible Indian I want to say that if I have unintentionally hurt anybody’s sentiments of feelings, I would like to express regret for the same”.

The incident took place back in April during a live session with Rohit Sharma.  Yuvraj and Rohit were talking about how India spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is making his family members dance on TikTok. In the video, the 38-year-old cricketer has used slang for Chahal but it seemed to have not gone down well with the members of a particular caste for that word is often used to demean the people from a scheduled caste.

Yuvraj Singh has been severely criticised on social media for the same. The hashtag #युवराज_सिंह_माफी_मांगो has so far seen nearly 20,000 tweets with users demanding an apology from the retired international.
