2027 ODI World Cup: The ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2027 is set to bring a new format along with some big matches. The tournament will be played from October 2 to November 21, 2027. South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia will jointly host the 14-team event.
The ICC officially announced the schedule in Cape Town on October 1, 2026. The tournament will have 57 matches across 12 venues. The final will be played in Johannesburg on November 21. Australia are the defending champions after winning the 2023 World Cup in India.
India will begin their World Cup campaign against Australia on October 7 in Cape Town. The match will bring back memories of the 2023 World Cup final, where Australia defeated India to win the title.
India and Australia will be joined by Pakistan, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and one team that comes through the Super Series in their group stage. India’s next big game will be against Pakistan in Johannesburg on October 10.

India will then face Afghanistan on October 14 in Tshwane. Their next match is against a qualifier in Bloemfontein on October 17. India will finish this stage against Zimbabwe in Victoria Falls on October 24.
India will have to finish among the top three teams in its six-team group to move into the Super 7 stage. The group stage also includes major fixtures such as Pakistan vs Afghanistan, South Africa vs New Zealand and England vs Bangladesh.
The 2027 World Cup won’t follow the same format used in 2023. The expanded tournament will have 14 teams and three stages before the semi-finals.
The first stage is called the “Super Series”. The three lowest-ranked teams among the 14 qualified sides will play each other once. Only the team finishing first will move forward.
The Super Series will start on October 2 in Windhoek. The three matches in this opening stage will be played on October 2, October 4 and October 6. The winner will join the other 11 teams in the main group stage.
The next round will have 12 teams divided into two groups of six. These teams will play a total of 30 matches in a round-robin format.
The top three teams from each group will qualify for the Super 7. One more team will also enter this stage. It will be the best fourth-placed team from the two groups.
The Super 7 will have seven teams playing against each other once, making 21 matches. After this stage, the top four teams will reach the semi-finals.
The team finishing first in the Super 7 will face the fourth-placed side in one semi-final. The second-placed team will play the third-placed team in the other. The winners of those two matches will then meet in the World Cup final in Johannesburg on November 21, 2027.

Ten teams will get direct entry into the 2027 World Cup through the qualification system. The remaining four places will be decided through the ICC World Cup Qualifier in 2027.
This new structure means teams will have to keep performing well at every stage. The tournament will return to Africa for the first time since 2003, with Namibia also hosting senior men’s World Cup matches for the first time.
