Amazon Prime Refund 2026: Amazon Prime subscribers in the US could receive more money from a large settlement linked to an Federal Trade Commission (FTC) case against Amazon. The FTC said on September 17, 2026, that it would “accelerate and expand payments” under the $2.5 billion settlement.
The new court-approved order increases the maximum total refund from $51 to $200 for eligible consumers. It also brings millions of more Prime users into the automatic payment programme. Amazon had agreed in September 2025 to provide up to $1.5 billion in consumer refunds and pay another $1 billion civil penalty to the government. By September 2026, more than $845 million had already been paid to consumers.

The FTC’s case involved allegations that Amazon enrolled millions of people into Prime without their consent and made it difficult for some customers to cancel their memberships. These were allegations made by the FTC and the settlement resolved the case without a separate trial finding on those claims.
The revised settlement now adds consumers who used between 11 and 20 Prime benefits during a 12-month period. Earlier payment rules covered a smaller group of eligible users. The newly added consumers will get automatic refunds starting October 1, 2026.
The broader refund programme applies to eligible US-based Prime customers who enrolled during the period covered by the case and used one of the Prime enrollment methods challenged by the FTC. The FTC says these challenged flows included the universal Prime decision page, shipping selection page, single-page checkout and Prime Video enrollment flow.
Payments for the newly added 11-to-20 benefit group are set to begin on October 1, 2026. Money will be sent through PayPal or Venmo, or by mailed check. There’s no need to fill out a new claim form or send extra paperwork to receive an automatic payment when a person is eligible.
Some people who already received money under the settlement may also get another payment. Under the revised order, Amazon could send up to another $149 if the required amount of accepted consumer payments isn’t reached by February 2027. That extra payment round is expected to start by April 2027. This could bring the total payment for an eligible person to as much as $200.
No extra claim is needed for the automatic payments. Eligible consumers don’t have to answer a notice or complete another form. The FTC says payments can arrive through PayPal, Venmo or a mailed check. Payments expire 60 days after the issue date.

The FTC has also warned about scams linked to the Amazon refund. The agency says it won’t contact people asking for money to release a refund. Amazon also won’t ask customers to pay a fee to receive settlement money.
The settlement is separate from other complaints or legal issues involving Amazon’s Prime Day discounts, product promotions or delivery practices. The current payment programme specifically relates to the FTC’s case over Prime enrollment and cancellation practices.
