On Friday, a man’s nephew attacked him for not inviting him for a function during lockdown in Kadanurupalya village near Doddabelavangala, on the outskirts of Benglauru.

The complainant Ramaiah (68) is a resident of Kadanurupalya village in Madhure Hobli and a farmer, while the accused Shivashankar (30) is Ramaiah’s younger brother’s son and also a notorious man around Nelamangala, Tumakuru, and Doddaballapura areas.

In his complaint to the police, Ramaiah has said he was at an empty plot where his sheep were grazing, when Shivashankar called him from a distance. He had with him a log that he had hid behind.

Shivashankar is said to have picked up a quarrel with Ramaiah over not giving farming tools labourers who worked for Shivashankar.

Then he beat him on the head with the log and in the anger blurted out the true reason which was that he wasn’t invited to the family function. Ramaiah sustained a long cut on his head, which had to be stitched up.

“As it was lockdown, I had invited only a few close members within our family for the function which was a low-key affair,” Ramaiah told BM. Shivashankar took objection to this as he assumed his uncle was trying to keep him away from his family.

Ramiah claimed that he had spent about Rs 7 lakh on Shivashankar to bail him out every time he was arrested.

“He (Shivashankar) had criminal cases registered against him, two in Tumakuru, two in Doddaballapura, two in Doddabelavangala and one in Bengaluru,” Ramaiah told BM. “The district police have even opened rowdy sheet on Shivashankar,” Ramiah added.

The Doddabelavangla police have registered a case of assault using dangerous weapons, criminal intimidation among other section. Further investigations are under way.
