Bihar as a dry state is witnessing a challenge in terms of liquor ban. In a fresh incident, two Special Auxiliary Police (SAP) and three home guard jawans were arrested with liquor bottles during police patrolling in Bihar’s Begusarai district.
Superintendent of Police, Awakash Kumar, said that the four out of five policemen- two Special Auxiliary Police (SAP) and home guard jawans each- were arrested from the barrack of Mufassil police station during a raid on Sunday night.
Another jawan was caught with one carton of liquor earlier after which the raid was conducted at the barrack. The SP himself led a team which raided the barrack for four hours and arrested four policemen along with four cartons of foreign liquor.
All the five policemen are being sent to jail after lodging an FIR against them under the relevant sections of Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act, 2018.
As per Mufassil police station SHO Rajbindu Prasad- On January 17, the Mufassil police conducted raids on liquor smugglers at Hanumangarhi which comes under the jurisdiction of Mufassil police and seized 414 cartons of India-made foreign liquor (IMFL).
A week back in a similar incident, SHO Kumar Amitabh and ASI America Prasad of Motipur police station under Muzaffarpur police range were suspended for illicitly keeping a huge consignment of liquor. During the raid, more than 300 cartons of liquor were recovered from the residence of SHO.
Back to back instances of liquor seizure in pockets of the state from police personals in Bihar are signalling for hobnobbing with the liquor mafia and engaging in its illicit trade.
