Who Can Apply?

The homestay scheme is geared towards individuals or groups like:

  • Rural families near the sites and tourist destinations
  • Individuals or businessmen who are engaged in their own ventures
  • Youths interested to go into the tourism business
  • Families keen to open registered homestays
  • Women entrepreneurs
  • Self-help groups (SHGs)

The rationale behind this, government officials say, is to help them take a greater role in the development of tourism in the state while also safeguarding the local customs and culture.

Backing Bihar’s Tourism Plans

The homestay promotion plan is in consonance with Bihar’s other initiatives and investments focused on building improved infrastructure at various tourist destinations. This would include places related to Jainism, Buddhism, heritage and eco-tourism sites. Data shows that in recent years tourist footfall has seen a significant growth from almost 2.89 crore tourists visiting Bihar in 2015, the state attracted more than 8.21 crore tourists in 2023 which requires more accommodation beyond conventional hotels.
