Bihar governor is NDA’s choice for President

In a press conference on Monday,  BJP chief, Amit Shah, said that the NDA government has nominated Bihar governor, Ram Nath Kovind as their presidential candidate.

The decision was taken after a parliamentary board meeting. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union ministers Sushma Swaraj, Venakiah Naidu, Nitin Gadkari were present in the meeting.

Shah added that no decision has been taken on the Vice President nominee.

A two-time Rajya Sabha MP from Uttar Pradesh, Mr Kovind has been a champion of issues relating to Dalits and backward classes.

The party had earlier constituted a three-member committee comprising Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley and Venkaiah Naidu to decide a presidential candidate.

The presidential polls voting will take place on July 17 and the results will be out by July 20. The new President will take charge of office on July 25.
