On Monday, BJP president Amit Shah constituted a three-member committee, which will reach out to the other political parties for a consensus over the alliance’s candidate for the upcoming presidential polls. The three members include Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley and M. Venkaiah Naidu.

The last date for nominations for the polls is June 28th, and the polls are scheduled for July 17th. The BJP has kicked off the process for the polls with this move. Earlier, Shah had postponed his trip to Arunachal Pradesh, scheduled for June 12th as PM, Narendra Modi, had asked him to stay for consultations. The committee will talk to all political parties in this matter, not just the NDA.

The BJP has already claimed support from YSR Congress, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi and both factions of the AIADMK. Also, the opposition parties have decided to field a common candidate. They have been waiting for the ruling party’s candidate to be announced.
