Bihar Railway Stations to Get Extra Ticket Counters: To avoid overcrowding at major railway stations due to thousands of people travelling to Bihar for Diwali and Chhath Puja, Indian Railways has introduced new measures to manage crowds. With additional ticket counters and temporary holding areas set up at 20 major stations under East Central Railway (ECR).

This will help with managing large crowds, shortening queues and allowing passengers to move more safely through stations. This will particularly help those travelling without reserved tickets.

20 Bihar Railway Stations To Get Extra Ticket Counters

New ticket counters will be opened at 20 major stations including Patna Junction, Danapur, Rajendra Nagar Terminal and Patliputra Junction.

Extra facilitators will be present at Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs), so passengers can buy unreserved tickets. Extra shifts will be implemented for commercial staff.

Temporary Holding Areas

One of the major changes coming into place is the introduction of temporary holding areas.

Instead of large crowds entering the station platforms, staff will control how many people go onto each platform based on train times and platform availability.

This will allow passengers to move safely in an organised fashion, avoiding unnecessary crowding at entrances, waiting areas and foot bridges. The holding areas will provide temporary waiting areas.

Improved Facilities

The railways will also improve facilities available to passengers by providing:

  • 24 hour help desks.
  • Extra water supplies and water tankers.
  • Temporary shelter areas.
  • Mobile toilets.
  • More commercial staff.
  • RPF Monitoring Crowds
  • The RPF and commercial staff will work together to provide crowd management at major stations.

Security staff will be placed at entrances and exits to monitor crowds. They will also be on platforms and foot bridges. Announcements will be made using public address systems and megaphones.

This will ensure there are organised queues and that there are no overcrowding issues. Passengers will be able to move safely to the correct platform.

Why Special Measures Are Being Taken At Bihar Railway Stations for Chhath?

During Diwali and Chhath Puja there is one of the largest movements of people throughout Bihar. Thousands of migrant workers, students and families will travel from cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Surat, Ahmedabad and other areas of the country to celebrate the festivals.

Earlier this month the railways announced that holding areas would be set up at several major stations. It was reported that the East Central Railway estimated an extra 10 lakh – 15 lakh passengers may travel to various areas of Bihar. Patna Junction will have capacity for 4,000 passengers, Danapur and Muzaffarpur will have capacity for 3,000 passengers. Rajendra Nagar Terminal and Patliputra Junction will have capacity for 2,000 passengers.
