Cockroach On Dessert Plate At Barbeque Nation: A birthday dinner at Barbeque Nation’s Virar branch allegedly went bad after a customer said he saw a live cockroach on a dessert plate. He later asked for an FSSAI check. The claim is linked to an incident said to have happened on August 19.
A clip that claims a cockroach was moving on a dessert plate has been shared online. The post says the video is from a Barbeque Nation outlet in Virar, Maharashtra. Many people have been discussing it on social media mostly about food cleanliness.
The video was put up on X by a user named Yash Raut on September 1. Raut said he went to the restaurant on August 19 for a birthday dinner with a group of five.
He tagged the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and asked for an inspection of the restaurant. FSSAI’s official support page replied that he should file a complaint through the Food Safety Connect app.

“COCKROACHES at @barbequenation Virar on my birthday dinner, 19 Aug, group of 5. Premium prices, zero hygiene. @fssaiindia please inspect this outlet,” Raut wrote in his post.
Raut said he was dining with a group of five when he allegedly noticed a cockroach moving on a dessert plate. He recorded the incident and subsequently shared the footage on social media.
After posting the video, Raut tagged FSSAI and asked the food safety body to check the Virar outlet.
In his post, he said the restaurant set high prices, even though, in his view, hygiene was not up to standard. He added that he had booked the table through Swiggy’s Dineout.
Once the post went viral, more people started to comment online. Many users asked about how food was handled and whether pest control was done properly at restaurants.
FSSAI’s official support account replied on September 1.
Instead of calling the post a written complaint, the authority asked the person to file the issue through the Food Safety Connect app. The app would allow the complaint to be processed in the right way, with the needed information.
FSSAI also told him to reach out to the food safety authorities in the relevant state or Union Territory.
By September 2, there has been no public reply from Barbeque Nation about the Virar allegations.
On its own website, the company says its places serve an all-you-can-eat buffet and also include desserts. The site also has a way for customers to share feedback, like complaints and suggestions. So, the claims from the customer should not be taken as proven. They should stay unconfirmed until an approved check or formal probe looks into them.
