Ahead of assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, Congress has decided to implement a new formula to reduce dissent within the party cadres. Party has declared that it will not field any senior leaders and state presidents in assembly elections.
According to sources, all these leaders have been asked to focus on election campaigning. “The idea could be implemented across the three states so that these senior leaders are not tied down to their specific constituencies and instead campaign across the state,” a senior Congress leader told a leading newspaper.
“This is especially true for Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, which have 200 plus seats. The final call would be taken by Congress president Rahul Gandhi”, he added.

Earlier, there were speculation that leaders like Kamal Nath, Scindia and Pilot would fight assembly election. “Asking them to contest assembly elections would not be a practical question before the party unless a policy decision is taken to make all party seniors contest”, a Congress leader told a newspaper.
