The officer has been identified as Pujari Thirupathi, a sub-inspector with the Hyderabad City Police. Viral footage circulating on social media shows the young child seated behind the steering wheel while the officer occupies the front passenger seat.

According to police, the car was moving slowly on a busy road, causing that traffic congestion, and everyone noticed it. Concerned motorists stopped the vehicle and questioned the officer about letting a minor, drive on a public road. In the video, the child is heard saying , “My grandfather is an SI,” while the officer reportedly defended his actions by claiming the vehicle was automatic and that he remained in control.

Criminal Case Registered Under BNS and Motor Vehicles Act

Following the public outcry, the Cyberabad Traffic Police registered a case against Thirupathi under Section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for acts endangering human life or personal safety. He has also been booked under Sections 180 and 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act, which deal with permitting an unauthorised person to drive and dangerous driving. The vehicle involved in the incident has reportedly been seized, and the investigation is ongoing.

Telangana DGP Orders Suspension

Taking serious note of the incident, Telangana Director General of Police C.V. Anand directed the Cyberabad Police Commissioner to suspend the officer and initiate a departmental inquiry.

The disciplinary action is coming while there’s still criticism that law enforcement personnel are supposed to maintain traffic rules not break them. The same incident also kinda brought back concerns about the risk of letting minors drive on public roads again.

Police say the investigation is still active and any extra legal steps or internal departmental action will be based on what the inquiry uncovers.
