Lakshmi had already bought items for the Karwa Chauth fast and religious rituals before the incident. The festival was just a day away when the argument between the couple turned violent.
The couple had three young children. Their daughter is around three years old. Their two sons are one-and-a-half years old and around two-and-a-half months old. The children were also inside the flat when the incident took place.
After Lakshmi’s death, Pradeep reportedly kept her body inside the room for two days. He contacted the police control room on Friday and informed them about what had happened. He then left the apartment, leaving the children behind.
Sanganer ACP Deepak Kumar Khandelwal said that Lakshmi’s body was found inside a room on the sixth floor of Dwarkapuri Apartments.
“The body was kept in the room for two days. The accused contacted the police control room today and informed that a dispute had occurred between him and his wife, which resulted in her death,” said Kumar.
Police officers from Pratap Nagar police station reached the apartment after receiving the call. They found Lakshmi’s body inside the room. The children were also left at the flat after their father had left.
ACP Kumar said that when the police team arrived, the accused was no longer at the house.
“The accused had left the house, leaving the children behind.”
The police later used technical surveillance to find Pradeep. He was traced and taken into custody. He is now being questioned as officers try to understand what led to the argument and the killing.
A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team also visited the apartment and collected evidence from the scene. Lakshmi’s body was taken to the mortuary at Mahatma Gandhi Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
