On the 15th-21st June, the world will celebrate Men’s Health Week. The theme for Men’s Health Week 2020 is ‘Take Action on Covid-19’. Men’s Health Month is celebrated across the country with screenings, health fairs, media appearances, and other health education and outreach activities.

According to the medical experts, Gynecomastia is a common condition in men and boys. The breasts swell and become abnormally large. All men and women have breast glands, but they are not noticeable in men, because they tend to be small and undeveloped.
Newborns, males during puberty, and older men are likely affected by the breast gland enlargement.
Symptoms of Gynecomastia:
Swelling
Pain or tenderness
Nipple discharge in one or both breasts
Causes of Gynecomastia:
Liver disease
Obesity is one of the major causes of the disease which can result in more estrogen.
Medications for various illnesses, including heart disease, cancer, depression, or ulcers
Thyroid problems cause hormones from that gland control growth and sexual development
Illegal drugs, including anabolic steroids, marijuana, and heroin
Kidney failure also results in Gynecomastia as there is no organ to filter the blood.
Injury or diseases that affect the testicles, which make testosterone
Treatment of Gynecomastia:
Generally, gynecomastia isn’t a serious problem, but it can be tough to cope with the condition. Men and boys with gynecomastia sometimes experience pain in their breasts. In such conditions, doctors advise to go through a surgery.
Breast reduction surgery or hormone therapy is done to block the effects of estrogens.
Aromatase inhibitors, used for treating breast and ovarian cancer in postmenopausal women, may be used off-label to prevent or treat gynecomastia in males.
Testosterone replacement can treat gynecomastia in older men with low testosterone levels.
