Mumbai Police seizes 1000 kg spurious butter in Amul packaging

Mumbai: Mumbai police have arrested five men from Bhayender area for selling fake butter packed as Amul butter. As per reports, the gang was busted by a team led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Atul Kulkarni from Bhayander area under the Kashimira Road police station limits.

Pictures published in media showed the spurious butter being packed into Amul packaging. Police seized around 1000 kg of butter along with the fake Amul packs. Further investigation is launched in this case to identify others involved in this racket and also how they manage to get the Amul packaging to fake their items easily.

The Food and Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has been keeping a check on the food quality products and also administered the adulteration time to time. On the other hand, such practices are at large and had been infiltrating our market for long. As per reports from an Annual Public Laboratory Testing, Milk, tea, coffee, vegetables, dairy products along with several other edible items are the most common adulterated products in India.

Earlier on December 12, Gujarat’s Surat city food inspectors had busted a gang involved in adulteration of butter. After the two consecutive raids, the police seized  25 kg of loose butter, 15 kg of Vanaspati ghee from one location and 12 ghee tins of 15 kg each and 48 packs of butter of 1 kg each from another hideout.
