NIC Recruitment 2026 Process: The National Informatics Centre, or NIC, working under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, MeitY has announced it will hold a new hiring round. This drive is for 376 posts of Scientific or Technical Assistant-A. The NIC notice also makes the basis clear. People who have a valid GATE score for 2024, 2025, or 2026 will be considered. The shortlisting will follow GATE ranks. There will not be a separate written test or an interview for the selection.
As per the official notice, the online application window will start on September 1, 2026. The time mentioned is 10:00 AM. It will end on September 30, 2026 at 5:30 PM. The 376 vacancies have been announced across three technical disciplines:
Educational qualification
People applying need the exact education asked for in the notification for the post. The approved degrees are M.Sc, MS, MCA, B.E, or B.Tech. These should be from the subjects named in the official notice.

1. Go to the official website at recruitment.nic.in.
2. Browse the recruitment section and select the Scientific Assistant recruitment link.
3. Enter your basic details to register and generate login details.
4. Using the above details, complete your application form.
5. Upload documents in the prescribed format.
6. Pay the application fee and submit the form after thoroughly verifying all details.

If a candidate applies to more than one discipline, the required fee must be paid for each discipline, when it applies. The fee cannot be returned.
A main point in this recruitment is that NIC will not run a separate written test. NIC also will not hold a separate interview for this post. The selection will follow these steps:
1. Merit list using GATE scores
NIC will make merit lists by discipline and by category. This will be based on the GATE scores that are valid for the applicants. Scores from 2024, 2025, and 2026 will be given the same importance.
2. Checking documents
Shortlisted candidates will be asked to attend document verification. This will be based on how many vacancies are available. During this stage, NIC will check original papers for education, GATE score, age, category, and other details that were entered in the application.
3. Salary and Posting
Those picked will be appointed as Scientific/Technical Assistant-A. This is a Group B S&T (Non-Gazetted) post. It falls under Pay Level 6 of the 7th Central Pay Commission. The basic pay is in the range of ₹35,400 to ₹1,12,400.
NIC has said that postings can be anywhere in India or outside India. This will depend on what the organisation needs at the time.
