Post the GST rollout, AC restaurants are charging 9% as CGST (Central Goods and Services Tax) and SGST(State Goods and Services Tax) each, while 6% tax is charged by non-AC restaurants.

Tuesday morning saw a minister’s statement doing the rounds on Twitter, which was allegedly given by Union Minister of State, Commerce and Industry, Nirmala Sitharaman. She has been widely criticised for her statement, which she had reportedly given in a Tamil TV interview. The minister now claims that her statement has been ‘distorted’ by Twitterati.

Her statement got widely criticised on Twitter. She is now clarifying that it was a case of misinterpretation.

She also responded to a number of Twitter users, claiming that it has been widely distorted.
