Kerala Police arrested a Navy officer accused of sexually abusing a woman. Following an FIR lodged by the victim’s father alleging that the Navy man raped his daughter after making a false promise to marry her, Police detained a chief petty officer of Navy identified as Murali Kumar.

The 38-year-old Navy officer was sent to judicial custody on Saturday September 1. Kumar has been charged under SC/ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act.

The victim in her early twenties claimed that the accused raped her when she had gone to meet him at a hotel last week. He had allegedly invited her to the hotel room.

The incident came to light when the woman was admitted to a private hospital near here, police said, adding that they would file a report with naval authorities on the incident.

Murali Kumar is a two-time Mr Asia winner and has also won the Mr India title eight times.
