Tamil Nadu government had announced that schools for the students of Class IX to XII, colleges and polytechnics will reopen from September 1.

While the schools were shut down in March 2020 due to COVID-19, the School Education Department will decide on resuming classes offline for Classes 1 to 8 students after September 15. The department had also released Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for schools to strictly adhere to after the classes start.

Parents should note that only 50 percent of students will be allowed to attend classes in each session to maintain COVID-19 protocols.

Chief Minister MK Stalin said: “Classes for standards 9 to 12, colleges, and polytechnics will reopen in Tamil Nadu as planned from September 1.”

Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Uttarakhand have reopened schools.

Meanwhile, the Telangana High court on Tuesday stayed the Government order in connection with the re-opening of schools across the state.

However, Health experts had earlier raised concerns about the Covid third wave affecting children more adversely than adults.
