Two killed after consuming spurious liquor: On Monday, two villagers perished in the Darbhanga district of Bihar, and two others fell gravely ill after consuming counterfeit alcohol. The incident has raised concerns regarding the enforcement of Bihar’s severe alcohol prohibition laws.

All of the victims, according to Senior Superintendent of Police Avakash Kumar, were residents of Rustampur village. According to PTI, family members of Santosh Das and Bhukhla Sahni allege that they consumed fake alcohol on Sunday, which led to their fatalities on Monday evening.

As their corpses had been cremated, it was impossible to conduct postmortem examinations. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities are currently recording the family members’ statements.

Laltun Sahni and Arjun Das, who are reportedly undergoing medical treatment at separate hospitals after consuming the alcohol, will provide statements to the police.

People liable for the production and distribution of illicit alcohol will be tracked based on their testimony, according to the SSP, PTI announced.

Since April 2016, when the Nitish Kumar administration instituted a ban on the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages, the Bihar government claims to have maintained a strict prohibition on the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages.
