UP Court directs notice against CM Yogi Adityanath in 19-year-old murder case

A Session Court in Maharajganj on Tuesday directed that a notice should be issued to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in a 19-year-old murder case. The court has given a week’s time for CM Yogi to respond to the notice.

Bharatiya Janata Party leader Adityanath is one of the accused in the case which pertains to the killing of a security officer of Talat Aziz, the then Samajwadi Party (SP) leader from Gorakhpur in the melee of a protest in 1999.

Aziz had accused him of leading a group which shot dead Satya Prakash Yadav. Earlier Aziz’s plea was turned down by the Sessions Court. She then approached the Lucknow court which asked Sessions Court to reopen the trial. Adityanath, too, had lodged a counter case against Aziz.

The development has come as a major jolt to Yogi Adityanath as well as to the entire Bharatiya Janata Party as Lok Sabha elections are round the corner.

As an order to issue notice was issued against Yogi Adityanath, opposition parties Samajwadi Party and Congress started demanding Yogi Adityanath’s immediate resignation as the chief minister, saying that the trial and the victims may fall prey to political influence.
