Venkaiah Naidu is NDA’s choice for Vice President

Information and Broadcasting Minister, M. Venkaiah Naidu has been finalised as the ruling NDA candidate for Vice Presidential poll.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Parliamentary Board decided on Monday evening. The decision was taken at a meeting headed by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

The Vice President’s election will be held on 5 August. The last date for filing nomination papers for the Vice Presidential election is Tuesday.

Earlier, Naidu stressed: “Never am I going to participate in the vice-presidential elections even if anyone compels me.”

The term of Vice President Hamid Ansari, who is also ex-official Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, ends on 10 August.

The Opposition on Tuesday named as their vice presidential candidate Gopalkrishna Gandhi, a former governor who was also briefly considered by them for the post of President.
